What you should know before traveling to Afghanistan

You should know that many governments don’t recommend traveling to this country, because high risks to your life. However, some people want to travel or must go to Afghanistan.  This country is located in the heart of Asia. It has borders with: Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Pakistan and a short border with China. The size of Afghanistan is 647.500km². It has the population of 31.129.603 people. The capital city is Kabul.

Citizens from all foreign countries need a visa. But, it is very easy to get it. You can check additional information on Afghanistan Foreign Ministry's visa webpage.
The best way to travel to Afghanistan is by plane. The main entry is the Kabul International Airport. The Ariana Afghan Airlines is the national carrier. But, they have a small fleet of planes. There are daily flights to Dubai, and periodic to: Delhi, Istanbul, Jeddah, Ankara and Kuwait. You can also go by a car and a bus. However, because of high temperatures in the region, traveling by a plane is much safer and a lot faster.

Dari and Pashto are official languages in Afghanistan. According to a survey, 50% of the population speak Dari and 35% speak Pashto. But, many of Afghans understand both languages. English language is also often used. Children study it from the 4th grade.

The official currency is the Afghani (AFN). Afghanistan is known for carpets. They are beautiful, but they have high prices. Guns and knives are common as well. Many collectors and historians think that certain guns have historical importance. Experts advise that if you are buying a gun, you must be careful. Some guns can blow up in the face if you accidentally fire them.
