Jeju Island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site

Jeju Island is a picturesque volcanic island in South Korea. It is the biggest island and the most relaxing holiday destination in the country due to its beautiful environment and unique local atmosphere.

People go to Jeju Island to enjoy its coastal culture and natural beauty. There are many activities visitors can do on the island that include walking along the shore, visiting museums, engaging in water sports, hiking, and experiencing festivals, just to name a few. There are also three UNESCO World Heritage sites on the island. These are the Geomun Oreum lava tubes, Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak, and Hallasan National Park. A visit to the island is incomplete without visiting the heritage sites.

Geomun Oreum

Geomun Oreum is the finest lava tube system in the world. It has unique features formed by volcanic activities more than 300,000 years ago. The lava flow formed several caves that are open to visitors.

Visitors can see a forest composed of cedar trees once they enter the Geomun Oreum. The forest is also the home of various local birds that include the White-Backed Woodpecker, Brown-eared Bulbul, Varied Tit, and the Bush Warbler. It has a trekking course and ecological exploring area.

Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak

The Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak rose from the sea during a volcanic eruption. It has a large crater on top, which is around 600 meters in diameter. The crater has 99 sharp rocks that look like a huge crown. It is the perfect place for horse riding and walks. One of the things to do in the Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak is to watch the sunrise from the crater.

Hallasan National Park

Hallasan Mountain is the tallest peak in the country. It stands right in the heart of Jeju Island. The mountain has several hiking trails that will allow visitors to explore the treasures the mountain has to offer. It is possible to reach the peak and go back down in one day.
